Privacy Policy
Effective October 14, 2026
Chaptered is a private family journal made by Calvera HQ, LLC ("we", "us"). Your family's memories are personal, and this policy explains plainly what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't use your photos to train AI.
What we collect
- Account information: your email address and display name, or the identifiers Apple provides if you use Sign in with Apple.
- What your family adds: children's names and birth or due dates, photos, video clips, voice notes, captions, categories, milestones, comments, reactions, Time Capsule letters and Birthday Interview answers.
- Family membership: who belongs to each child's family and their role (viewer, contributor or co-parent), and invite codes you create.
- Family web link visitors: if a parent turns on a web link, the name a visitor types when leaving a heart or note, and the note itself. We also count how many times a link is opened.
- Subscription status: whether you have Chaptered Plus, the plan, and its renewal date. Payments are handled by Apple — we never see your card details.
- Device information: a push-notification token so we can send the notifications you turn on. If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. Chaptered contains no third-party analytics or advertising code.
Location: Chaptered removes location data (GPS) from every photo and video on your phone before it is uploaded.
How we use it
- To store your family's journal and show it to the people you've invited.
- To send the notifications you choose (family activity, monthly photo days, birthdays, On This Day, and letters opening). You can turn each off in Settings.
- To provide Chaptered Plus features and keep track of storage.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
Widgets, the Year in Review movie and the Keepsake Book are created on your iPhone.
Who can see your journal
Only people you (or a co-parent) invite. Access is enforced by our database for every request. Sealed Time Capsule letters stay hidden from everyone — including parents — until their opening date. If you turn on a family web link, anyone who has that link can view the album (but not letters) until you turn it off; links are long and random, and pages are hidden from search engines.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Chaptered: Supabase (database, file storage and sign-in, hosted in the United States), Apple (Sign in with Apple, In-App Purchases and push notifications) and Cloudflare (this website). They process data only to provide their services to us.
Children's privacy
Chaptered is meant for parents and adult family members to record memories about a child. It is not directed to children, and children should not create accounts. Parents control their child's journal and can edit or delete anything in it at any time.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep your journal for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual memories, a child's whole journal, or your entire account in the app (Settings → Delete account). Deleting removes the content and its files from our systems; backups are overwritten within 30 days.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your information. Depending on where you live (for example in California or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights; contact us and we'll help. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, files are stored in private storage that requires family membership (or an active web link) to read, and we follow the principle of least access.
Changes
If we make material changes we'll update this page and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
